I did sanitize my hands immediately before and after filming this video!!
Many of you are probably wondering if staying at home really makes a difference. I know you have probably been watching the news and it seems as though the experts and the president are saying different things. This can be confusing, so I have posted some information here that can be found online:
I found the graphs helpful to visualize the concept of controlling this virus by preventing the spread.
If you look at these graphs, you will notice that we seem to have adequate resources and small numbers of deaths compared with other states. For example, our projected peak of deaths per day (4/12) is behind New York for example (they are hoping their peak is tomorrow) and our number is low: 17 (NY is 878 deaths per day.)
Our total deaths: 155 by 8/1/2020 is also low compared with New York(15,618).
Now we don't have too much in common with New York, especially NYC, which is where most of this is happening. But we can also compare with other places that have smaller populations.
I think that we are doing well because we are taking things seriously. Thank you for doing your part!! Let's hope the numbers turn out to be lower than projected because we are all doing the right thing.
Hi everyone, I haven't had any real change to previously posted information until now. I am glad that the CDC has come out in favor of covering your nose and mouth with some sort of mask, bandanna, or scarf.
With the usual cold and flu, we don't recommend this measure unless you are the one who is sick.
The trouble is, this time up to 25% of estimated cases may be asymptomatic, just feel fine, but spread the virus all over the place. Also, some people take up to 7 days to get symptoms, but we don't know for sure how long they may be spreading the virus without realizing they are getting sick.
Don't let wearing a mask give you a false sense of security. You still need to be careful to clean your hands and avoid touching your face, including your eyes.
Continue to maintain social distancing habits and STAY HOME if you don't need to go to the grocery store or work where you are needed.
I continue to do video visits to try and keep up with our routine health care needs and to help you stay away from the urgent care or hospital unless really necessary. Please reach out if you need an appointment or have a concern.
Meanwhile, BE WELL, be kind, be thoughtful, be mindful.
Warmest regards, Dr Collins
